Creativity in toddlers flourishes through play, exploration and relationships. At Explorers Learning Academy, we nurture creativity through play-based learning, open-ended resources, art, music, movement and imaginative role play. Guided by the EYLF (Outcome 4), educators scaffold children’s ideas, encourage problem-solving and value children’s voices. In line with ACECQA and the NQS, our thoughtfully designed environments, flexible routines and responsive teaching support curiosity, experimentation and confident, creative learning every day. Partnerships with families further strengthen creative expression and belonging for children.

Our 3–5 year olds participate in our Jolly Phonics Program. The Jolly Phonics program supports and engages children in learning letters and letter sounds, developing children’s early literacy skills. Jolly Phonics can be used in different ways such as songs, storybooks and using it on technology such as an iPad or tablet. During the year, children have developed their letter and sound recognition and have developed the skills to write these letters and their names. It has been amazing to watch! The children have shown such a big interest in Jolly Phonics, and it has helped them become confident and engaged learners for their future learning and development.

At Explorers Learning Academy, we recognise the importance of both nature and nurture in shaping a child’s growth and development. Nature, the biological influences, provides the foundation, while nurture, the environment and experiences, fosters learning and emotional well-being. Children benefit from a balanced approach that combines both aspects, as it enhances their cognitive, physical, and social growth.

For example, we support children’s development by providing a nurturing, supportive environment where they feel safe to explore, learn, and make mistakes. Outdoor play, particularly in the bush nook at the end of our street, allows children to connect with nature, develop physical skills like climbing and balancing, and engage in imaginative play. We also nurture emotional development by encouraging empathy and respect for others. Through these practices, children thrive emotionally and cognitively, building strong foundations for lifelong learning.
